Stop Disease Transmission, Start Source Reduction! Join our social
media reel competition to raise awareness about mosquito-borne diseases and showcase effective ways to reduce
mosquito breeding sites in your communities. Use your creativity to educate, engage, and empower viewers to take
action!
Objectives:
- To raise awareness about the dangers and impact of mosquito transmitted diseases in the Caribbean Region.
- To emphasize messages shared during public education campaigns on mosquito awareness.
- To foster behaviour change among CARPHA Member States.
- To increase public interest and promote engagement on CARPHA Social Media platforms.
Eligibility:
- Open to all residents of the CARPHA Member States 18 years and over.
- Staff of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and members of the Caribbean Vector Borne Disease Network
(CariVecNet) are not eligible to participate.
- CARPHA will recognize the owner of the Instagram account as the official participant in the Caribbean Mosquito Awareness Week Instagram Reel Competition. The account owner must be 18 years of age or older to be eligible to participate.
- If the account owner chooses to feature children or other individuals in their video, they do so at their own discretion. All responsibility, liability, and any potential winnings associated with the entry will rest solely with the account holder.
Reel Guidelines:
- Duration: Reels should be between 30 and 90 seconds long.
- Format: Videos to be submitted in a vertical (9:16) format, suitable for Instagram.
- Content: Reels must focus on one or more of the following themes:
- Source Reduction: Show a mosquito breeding site containing Aedes aegypti larvae and/or pupae and
demonstrate the appropriate source reduction methods. (e.g., eliminating standing water, securely
covering water storage containers and tanks).
- Education: Provide educational facts about the dangers of mosquito-borne diseases.
- Originality: Each entry must be an original work, not copied from others, and must not violate the
intellectual property rights of any person or entity. All elements in the reels must be original and must not
include copyrighted material unless you have the rights to use it.
- Third party brands: Must not promote your own or third-party goods or services or include any trademarks
(other than those belonging to CARPHA)
- Language: Reels can be in English, Spanish, French or Dutch. Submissions that are not in English must
include English subtitles.
How to Enter:
NB: Winners will be required to share their reels with CARPHA for
reposting
Judging Criteria/Rubric:
- Creativity and Originality: How creative and original is the approach to presenting information? (20
points)
- Relevance to the Theme:Does the reel effectively relate/incorporate the slogan, theme and other CMAW
assets; e.g. jingle? (10 points)
- Engagement and Impact:Does the reel have the potential to engage and educate the audience? (10 points)
- Quality of Content:Is the video visually appealing and audibly clear? (5 points)
- Technical Accuracy:Does the reel provide accurate information and show a mosquito breeding site
containing Aedes aegypti larvae and/or pupae and demonstrate the appropriate source reduction methods? (10
points)
- Submissions, Shortlist and Winners
- Submissions for each prize will be considered on Sundays and Wednesdays before 9pm from May 18th –
30th
- Shortlisted videos will be shared on CARPHA’s Instagram page on Mondays and Thursdays over the two-week
competition period
- Winners will be announced on Tuesday and Fridays over the two-week competition period

for promotional purposes in any media without further compensation.
- CARPHA is not responsible for any copyright infringement on your part and may disqualify any entries that
include unauthorized material.
- Decisions made by the judging panel are final and binding in all respects.
