Caribbean Mosquito Awareness Week is a timely reminder that mosquito-borne diseases remain a real and ongoing threat in our region. We continue to see outbreaks of vector-borne diseases (VBDs) such as dengue and malaria in certain countries. Recently, CARPHA has been monitoring the reemergence of yellow fever and chikungunya, especially in South American territories, with the potential for rapid spread to the rest of the Caribbean. The threat is real and the facts are clear. Mosquito-borne infections continue to affect lives, families and communities, and that is why this week continues to matter so much. As we reflect on these realities, we also recognize the importance of working together. CARPHA remains committed to supporting Member States through its vector-borne disease networks, training and response mechanisms. However, lasting impact also depends on the everyday actions taken by communities and families. From May 11th to May 15th, 2026, CARPHA is proud to join Member States, partners, schools and communities across the Caribbean in commemorating Caribbean Mosquito Awareness Week 2026. This observance is not just about sharing information—it is about encouraging action. It is about reminding each Caribbean citizen that mosquito control starts at home, in our schools, in our workplaces and in our communities. The theme “Stop Disease Transmission, Start Source Reduction” speaks to the power of collective effort and practical action. By removing standing water, keeping our surroundings clean, covering water containers and sharing these messages with others, we can all help reduce mosquito breeding and prevent diseases. As our tagline reminds us: keep mosquitoes away, clean up today. Read more
